Stop the $240 Million Redlands “Crazy Train”

Stop the $240 Million Redlands “Crazy Train” published on 2 Comments on Stop the $240 Million Redlands “Crazy Train”

We recently learned the proposed $240 Million Rail to Redlands aka the Redlands “Crazy Train” is far worse than a waste of taxpayer money.
We believe if the people in Redlands knew these facts, 80-90% + would oppose the Redlands “crazy train.”
As a first step in resistance, we have until September 29 to submit comments regarding the draft EIR.

Please submit your comments opposing the EIR for the Rail to Redlands aka Redlands “Crazy Train” by clicking on the “Stop The Crazy Train” Link below. An e-mail window will open; please enter your name and city, and click send. This should take ~30 seconds.

Feel free to personalize the e-mail. The more personalized the better, but we recognize we are all busy and any e-mail is better than none.

Stop The Crazy Train

Here is a Document that Spells out the Details, Please Read and Use in your Discussions of this Important Issue!
SanBag Details Letter

The project will cost $240 million plus to build.  It will lose money, Duh!!!

There will be 24 trains per day each way crossing 14 intersections in Redlands including at Eureka, Orange and 6th Street in the downtown area snarling traffic.  Unless they spend extra money to quiet the crossings, (we do not know what that entails), each train will sound its horn three times at each intersection.

But it’s even worse.

With the train, developers can get low-interest loans from the federal government to build “transit oriented development” which is development approved of by the federal government.  This means high-rise up to five stories dense “stack and pack” housing in downtown, near Esri and near the university.

The City plans to build a four-story parking garage between the Kerkorian theater and the freeway on the north side of the railroad tracks and then Kerkorian plans to build an even larger parking structure on the south side of the railroad tracks.  The large, ugly parking structures will be so large that people could not see the theater from the freeway.

In addition, the City’s recent attempt to raise taxes to deal with the hundred year flood is part of this.  I was suspicious that the government was being so unusually proactive and foresighted.  Tonight, I learned of the answer.  In order to obtain federal money to build the high-rise “stack and pack” housing, the City has to address the hundred year flood.

Furthermore, we know this is part of Agenda 21/“sustainability.”

Stop The Crazy Train

The Loch Ness Monster is a “cryptid” — something rumored to exist but without actual proof. The Socialist Utopia of the progressives is a cryptid too. In his latest Firewall, Bill Whittle shows why Good Socialism, like the Loch Ness Monster, is a giant, air-breathing creature that (conveniently!) NEVER COMES UP FOR AIR.

Hi everybody. I’m Bill Whittle and this is the Firewall.

Ah, Progressives! You really have to – well, not admire them exactly – but if not admire them then at least grant them a grudging respect for the tenacity of their beliefs.

Unfortunately for them, the Socialist utopia is a Cryptid, which, according to Wikipedia’s serviceable definition, is “a creature whose existence has been suggested but has not been discovered or documented by the scientific community.” Here’s another example of a cryptid: it’s called the Loch Ness Monster. Like the socialist utopia, the Loch Ness Monster requires a lot of magical thinking.

Magical thinking is not wishful thinking. “It sure would be cool if there was a Loch Ness Monster!” That’s wishful thinking.

Magical thinking is the belief that belief can make things actually manifest themselves in the real world. Magical thinking not only dulls reason – it kills reason. Magical thinking is actually form of anti-thinking: belief in something not because of evidence, but in spite of evidence.

For example, people who believe in the existence of the Loch Ness Monster will almost universally claim that it is the last of the Plesiosaurs – giant marine dinosaurs that definitely did exist millions of years ago. Like all dinosaurs, Plesiosaurs are air breathers. So in order to believe in the Loch Ness Monster, you have to believe that an air-breathing creature the size of a city bus lives under the surface of Loch Ness.

Now conservatives have beliefs too, but our beliefs are not based on what we wish to be true but what the evidence shows us to be true. We believe in the power of the free market, of individual effort and reward, and of the power of self interest to make life better for everyone. So we too believe that there are bus-sized creatures that breathe air and live under the surface of the water.

But the creatures we believe in are called whales. We believe in whales not because we want to believe in whales. We don’t depend on a mystery wake, or a blurry, distant outline of what might be humps or might be a tree trunk. Conservatives believe in whales because there are thousands of pictures of whales taken every single day. We believe in the power of capitalism and the free market because there are billions of people that benefit from it every single day, and the evidence of that benefit – even and perhaps especially from former socialist economies like China and India – grows every single day.

The fact that there are no pictures of the Loch Ness Monster – not one – that is even close to the thousands and thousands of pictures of whales, tell those of us who do not believe in magical thinking something very important: and that is that whales exist, and the Loch Ness Monster does not.

If you could print wealth instead of money, that would be a close-up of the Loch Ness Monster. But you can’t print Cadillac’s: you can only print what people use to buy Cadillac’s and the more you print the less it’s worth.

If Health Care were free, that would be HD video of the Loch Ness Monster being petted on the head. But Health Care is not free. Health Care is very expensive. And if the government pays for it – from your taxes – then the government controls it. Which means they can turn off the health care you pay for with your tax money.

If war were a big misunderstanding that could be resolved though open discussion, well, that’d be Nessie in a tank at Sea World. But it’s not a misunderstanding. ISIS wants the world to pray to Allah five times a day, murder homosexuals, and keep women in tents, indoors. We don’t like that, so we’re going to have to fight those people.

Now Progressives, to be fair, say that the history of socialism isn’t just the Great Terror of the French Revolution, the purges and enforced famine of the of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; the mass starvation of maybe fifty million Chinese peasants in the People’s Republic of China; seven, eight, ten million more teachers, doctors, and musicians murdered in the progressive socialist takeovers in Vietnam and Cambodia; plus throw in a couple more million murdered by socialists – but progressive socialists! – in Cuba, El Salvador, Nicauragua and Venezuela, etc. and so on. They say Socialism can work without killing hundreds of millions of people, and to prove it, they point to places like Sweden.

For many years, this was the best single piece of evidence for the Loch Ness Monster. It’s called the “Surgeon’s Photograph.”

The Surgeon’s Photograph was a hoax. And decades after this picture was taken, some researchers reproduced the hoax, to show how it was done. And the shocking thing about it was the little model monster they used for the picture was only about this big: about the size of a duck decoy. And it’s only knowing that that you can look at the Surgeons Photograph and see what’s wrong with it: the waves are too big, and too smooth – they are shaped like ripples. They’re shaped like ripples because they are ripples: the best evidence of the Loch Ness Monster was so poor that without magical thinking people would have seen through it right away.

Now it is absolutely true that Sweden is a socialist country, in the real world. But “good” Socialism, as it exists in Sweden, is not real. It’s a plaster cast of socialism. Sweden has cradle-to-grave socialist benefits because for a while – and only a short while – because like the Loch Ness Monster, Sweden is a fake, for two beneath-the-surface reasons.

First, Sweden can afford to pay all of these benefits –“free” health care, “free” maternity leave, and so on – because the cost of defending Sweden is paid by American capitalist taxpayers. I don’t want to hear about the few jets or token troops Sweden might have. ALL of the money made by ALL of the Swedes could not pay for Sweden’s defense against the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Good socialism only exists because capitalists pay to defend the good socialists from the bad socialists.

And Sweden, and the rest of the socialist states, is a fraud for a second reason: All of the European socialist states – ALL of them – are dying.

Socialism is a Ponzi scheme. In order to pay for someone from cradle to grave, someone else has to do the work to come up with the tax money. As long as you have a pyramid – enough young people working – then you can afford these kind of benefits. And sure enough, that was the case for several decades after World War 2.

A stable society – not a pyramid but just a column – requires about 2.1 births per woman: one to replace the man, one to replace the woman and point 1 to take the fire challenge on Facebook. That .1 belongs to Darwin – they’re not going to live long enough to have kids.

Sweden’s birthrate is 1.9. There are fewer Swedes every year. Norway is 1.9; Denmark is 1.7; Canada is 1.6; Japan is 1.4, and Spain and Greece are all 1.3. These social welfare states are dying. Turns out if the government gives people everything they need to live, they don’t seem to want to live anymore – not as a culture, anyway. They’re all dying – all of them – and their welfare states are propped up by importing workers from places like Yemen – where the birthrate is a robust 4.2. Unfortunately, these imported workers – many of them from Muslim countries, where they still do want to live – aren’t Swedes, no matter how hard Sweden tried to make them Swedes. So blonde Swedish women no longer feel safe going out in a mini-skirt. And for at least five years in Neighboring Oslo, Norway, the percentage of rapes caused by the Muslim minority was – 100%. All of them. As the brilliant mark Steyn said: demographics is destiny.

Bad socialists murdered at least 200 million people. Good socialists are committing suicide, and would have been extinct long ago without American capitalism to protect them from the bad socialists.

The Progressive utopia is the Loch Ness Monster of politics: a giant, air-breathing creature that never surfaces for air. Progressives claim to love it because of their morally advanced love of the poor, but the fact is, the reason they love wealth redistribution to achieve income equality is because other people’s wealth is being redistributed to them. It’s not morality. It’s laziness, envy and it’s stealing, and the history – the photographs – show that time and time again they will murder those who create wealth and steal it before they would, you know, go out and create some of their own.

Promises, Promises, Where are the Democrats Now! (They Publishing Trashy Filth About Conservative Candidates) published on

Compiled and Edited by H. A VanderLeestBROKENPROMISES

Not one of these are new, hidden or, er transparent.   😳

In all most all cases, the names were left off to protect the, ah, Incumbents.

Democratic Promises

In his 2008 DNC speech, echoing a daily campaign theme, Obama said “I will cut taxes—cut taxes—for 95 percent of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class.”Surely you recall his famous campaign promise “If you make less than $250,000 a year, you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime.”

Well, after creating a tobacco tax and a tanning tax, prohibiting deductions for over-the-counter medications, and imposing the individual-mandate tax—all of which apply to people earning well under $250,000—Obama had the chutzpah to tell Bill O’Reilly, “I haven’t raised taxes once.”

“We are committed to pursuing tough, practical, and humane immigration reform in the first year of the next administration.”

Not only did that first year pass without so much as a nod toward immigration reform, the Obama administration has been deporting illegal immigrants like crazy, leaving Hispanic Caucus Democrats in the awkward position of changing the subject to health care, and otherwise blaming Republicans.

“I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan….I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing, so that America is once again that last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.”

The fight in Afghanistan is nowhere near finished. Global climate change diplomacy is in full disarray, and there are many who describe what is happening in Syria nowadays as “genocide.” Add to that Obama’s aggressive drone strikes all over the globe, and the ongoing operation of the controversial Guantanamo Bay detention facility, and it’s hard to build a case that our “moral standing” has been restored.

During the debate over the deeply flawed bill in 2009 and 2010, voters were repeatedly assured by President Obama and his congressional allies that everyone who liked their current health care plan would be able to keep it. “Period.”

Now, as the new law implodes before our eyes, millions of Americans have received letters of cancellation. With approximately five million people across the country expected to lose their current plan and millions more to follow, when all the smoke clears, it’s clear that the Democrats broke their promise to the American people. Many other Americans are experiencing fewer medical options as insurers restrict their choice of doctors and hospitals in order to keep costs low.

The official unemployment rate is stuck at over 9 percent, with the figure at 16 or 17 percent once people who have given up looking for work or who are involuntarily working part time are included. The administration’s stimulus package at the beginning of 2009 helped stave off an even worse economic crisis, but was both too small and too heavily weighted toward tax cuts to significantly impact employment levels.

President Barack Obama has made numerous promises to the American people, but hasn’t quite followed through on all of them. Most recently he promised to take action on immigration at the end of the summer, but is now delaying it until the end of the year.

Throughout his years in office, some of Obama’s most notable promises not delivered include allowing imported prescription drugs, requiring employers to provide seven paid sick days per year and doubling funding for after-school programs.

We will ensure that federal employees, including public safety officers who put their lives on the line every day, have the right to bargain collectively, and we will fix the broken bargaining process at the Federal Aviation Administration.

We will fight to ban the permanent replacement of striking workers, so that workers can stand up for themselves without worrying about losing their livelihoods.

We will also ensure that every American worker is able earn up to seven paid sick days to care for themselves or an ill family member.

To help workers share in our country’s productivity, we’ll expand the Earned Income Tax Credit, and raise the minimum wage and index it to inflation.
Didn’t happen. And the minimum wage hike is actually in the 2012 platform, again.

We will encourage diversity in the ownership of broadcast media, promote the development of new media outlets for expression of diverse viewpoints, and clarify the public interest obligations of broadcasters who occupy the nation’s spectrum.
Well, Comcast did buy NBC.

We will ensure that the foreclosure prevention program enacted by Congress is implemented quickly and effectively so that at-risk homeowners can get help and hopefully stay in their homes. We will work to reform bankruptcy laws to restore balance between lender and homeowner rights.
Larry Summers and Tim Geithner opposed cramdown, so it didn’t happen. And I think it’s safe to say that foreclosure prevention was not a priority for this administration.

We will work with Canada and Mexico to amend the North American Free Trade Agreement so that it works better for all three North American countries.

We will put all non-emergency bills that Congress has passed online for five days, to allow the American public to review and comment on them before they are signed into law.

We will require Cabinet officials to have periodic national online town hall meetings to discuss issues before their agencies.

We reject illegal wiretapping of American citizens, wherever they live.

“Obama Fights to Retain Warrantless Wiretapping“.
We reject the use of national security letters to spy on citizens who are not suspected of a crime.

We reject the tracking of citizens who do nothing more than protest a misguided war.

And we will ensure that law-abiding Americans of any origin, including Arab-Americans and Muslim- Americans, do not become the scapegoats of national security fears.

We will respect the time-honored principle of habeas corpus, the seven century-old right of individuals to challenge the terms of their own detention that was recently reaffirmed by our Supreme Court.

“And we will ensure retirement security every day by protecting Social Security, protecting pensions and making savings easier for retirement for our seniors.” — Nancy Pelosi, Press Conference, July 28, 2006.

“To free America from dependence on foreign oil, we will achieve energy independence for America by 2020 by eliminating reliance on oil from the Middle East and other unstable regions of the world.”

On the first day we control Congress, we will begin by passing all of the 9/11 Commission recommendations.”

Democrats will never cut off funding for our troops when they are in harm’s way…”

Democrats pledged to provide full funding for critical intelligence programs — but, just months after taking power, they took precious resources away from critical intelligence programs and used the money to fund research on global warming instead.

“I believe there is virtually unanimous agreement in the Congress that we must secure our borders and know who is entering our country.

“We will work together to lead the House of Representatives with a commitment to integrity, to civility and to fiscal responsibility.”

“Democrats resorted to begging, threatening and, worst of all, bribing members for their votes with $21 billion in pork-barrel projects.… Loading a bill that’s supposed to keep our soldier in bullets, boots and beans with pork-barrel bribes for congressional colleagues must be a low point in the history of the U.S. Congress. This destroys any pretense Democrats have to being a party of fiscal responsibility and good government.”

Promise: “There are no tax increases in this [budget].” — Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, House Floor Remarks, March 29, 2007.

Broken Promise: “But both the House and Senate [Democratic] budgets implicitly require tax increases in the years ahead. Neither offers any guidance about where the needed extra revenue would come from.” —

Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax

American families don’t have the option of using gimmicks to put their family budgets in order. But such rules weren’t applied by House Democrats in crafting their budget, which is loaded with trickery that hardly reflects “American priorities and values.” “The House and Senate versions of the budget depend on ‘reserve funds’ to pay for additional spending.… There’s only one catch: The reserve funds are empty.”

“Breaking with many Democrats, Ms. Pelosi also spoke out against earmarking billions of dollars for home-state projects, a practice she calls a ‘monster’ that hurts Congress. ‘I’d get rid of all of them,’ she says. ‘None of them is worth the skepticism, the cynicism the public has … and the fiscal irresponsibility of it.’”

Ensure Members Have No Financial Interest in Earmarks They Sponsor

“There is not a liberal America and a conservative America. There is a United States of America. There is not a black America and a white America, a Latino America, an Asian America, There is a United States of America.” —

Candidate Obama told Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone in 2008 that he would put an end to the type of politics that “breeds division and conflict and cynicism,” and that he would help Americans “rediscover our bonds to each other and to get out of this constant petty bickering that’s come to characterize our politics.”

If you don’t have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare voters. If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint? your opponent as someone people should run from.” — Obama, implicitly rejecting political scare tactics, during his presidential acceptance speech

“The time has come for a president … who will listen to you and learn from you even when we disagree…. I will be that president for America.”

“I’ll be a president who finally makes health care affordable and available to every single American, the same way I expanded health care in Illinois. By bringing Democrats and Republicans together to get the job done.”

“If the Republicans have ideas for how to improve our healthcare system, if they want to suggest modifications that would deliver faster, more effective reform … I am happy to consider some of those ideas,”

“But there is no doubt that we’ve been living beyond our means and we’re going to have to make some adjustments. Now, what I’ve done throughout this campaign is to propose a net spending cut.”

I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited in half by the end of my first term in office. This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we’ve long neglected. But I refuse to leave our children with a debt that they cannot repay – and that means taking responsibility right now, in this administration, for getting our spending under control.”

This is big – the President today promised that by the end of his first term, he will cut in half the massive federal deficit we’ve inherited. And we’ll do it in a new way: honestly and candidly.”

To Promote His Health Care Package, President Obama said the following: “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.

“I know a lot of Americans who are satisfied with their health care right now are wondering what reform would mean for them, so let me be clear: If you like your doctor or health care provider, you can keep them. If you like your health care plan, you can keep that too.”

“Those who oppose reform will also tell you that under our plan, you won’t get to choose your doctor, that some bureaucrat will choose for you. That’s also not true. Michelle and I don’t want anyone telling us who our family’s doctor should be, and no one should decide that for you either. Under our proposals, if you like your doctor, you keep your doctor. If you like your current insurance, you keep that insurance. Period. End of story.”

“Obama said ObamaCare ‘would preserve the right of Americans who have insurance to keep their doctor and their plan.’

Obama repeatedly promised that all the negotiations would be televised on CSPAN, so that all Americans could see exactly what was being said and done

“Not negotiating behind closed doors, but bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are. ‘Cause part of what we have to do is enlist the American people in this process.

President Obama promised to “sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of [his] first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.”

“As President, I will close Guantanamo, reject the Military Commissions Act and adhere to the Geneva Conventions. Our Constitution and our Uniform Code of Military Justice provide a framework for dealing with the terrorists.”

OBAMA PROMISES THAT NO ONE EARNING UNDER $250,000 WOULD GET A TAX HIKE: Feb. 4, 2009 – Just sixteen days into his presidency, Obama signed into law a 156 percent increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco – a hike of 62 cents per pack. The median income of smokers is just over $36,000.
March 23, 2010 – Obama’s health care bill enacted two dozen new or higher taxes (at least seven of which violated his “firm pledge” on taxes), including:
— Individual Mandate Excise Tax
— Employer Mandate Excise Tax
— Small business 1099-MISC Information Reporting
— Surtax on Investment Income
— Excise Tax on Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans
— Hike in Medicare Payroll Tax
— Medicine Cabinet Tax
— HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike
— Flexible Spending Account Cap – aka “Special Needs Kids Tax”
— Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers
— “Haircut” for Medical Itemized Deduction from 7.5% to 10% of Adjusted Gross Income
— Tax on Indoor Tanning Services
— Elimination of tax deduction for employer-provided retirement Rx drug coverage
— Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tax Hike
— Excise Tax on Charitable Hospitals
— Tax on Innovator Drug Companies
— Tax on Health Insurers
— Biofuel “black liquor” tax hike
— Codification of the “economic substance doctrine”

During the campaign, Obama said that lobbyists “won’t work in my White House.” “They are not going to dominate my White House”
Obama broke this pledge immediately upon taking office in January 2009, when he nominated William Lynn as deputy to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. At the time, Lynn was a senior vice president at Raytheon, which has billions of dollars in Defense Department contracts. Obama’s transition office explained the decision: “Because Mr. Lynn came so highly recommended from experts across the political spectrum, the president-elect felt it was critical that he fill this position.” During his first two weeks in office, Obama nominated 17 lobbyists for Administration posts. There were many others after that. This source says that by January 2012, Obama had appointed nearly 100 lobbyists.

As president I will never compromise when it comes to Israel’s security. Not when there are still voices that deny the Holocaust. Not when there are terrorist groups and political leaders committed to Israel’s destruction. Not when there are maps across the Middle East that don’t even acknowledge Israel’s existence, and government-funded textbooks filled with hatred toward Jews. Not when there are rockets raining down on Sderot, and Israeli children have to take a deep breath and summon uncommon courage every time they board a bus or walk to school.”

* “But part of our commitment must be speaking up when Israel’s security is at risk, and I don’t think any of us can be satisfied that America’s recent foreign policy has made Israel more secure.”

Two days after his inauguration, President Obama placed his first phone call to a foreign leader — Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Abbas had repeatedly emphasized the importance of “implementing the principles of Yasser Arafat.”

OBAMA PROMISES TO TRY THE 9/11 CONSPIRATORS IN CIVILIAN COURT RATHER THAN IN MILITARY TRIBUNALS:On November 13, 2009, the Obama administration announced that it would try five Guantanamo Bay detainees with alleged ties to the 9/11 conspiracy, in a civilian court — the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The defendants were Ramzi Bin al-Shibh, Walid bin Attash, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali, Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, and 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. But when this decision became politically radioactive, the Obama administration changed the venue to a military tribunal, as had been the Bush administration’s original plan.

THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION PREDICTS THAT THE STIMULUS BILL WILL KEEP THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE BELOW 8 PERCENT:The reality was very different. As of this writing (September 2012), unemployment had never been below 8% since Romer’s comments.

The healthcare reform bill included an individual mandate.

OBAMA PROMISES TO OPPOSE RECESS APPOINTMENTS:In March 2010 Obama made 15 recess appointments, saying: “If, in the interest of scoring political points, Republicans in the Senate refuse to exercise that responsibility [referring to approving Obama’s appointments], I must act in the interest of the American people and exercise my authority to fill these appointments on an interim basis.”

Tired of the campaign attack ads in politics

Re “Election 2014: Congressional candidate Pete Aguilar releases TV ad” (Sept. 4): I commend Pete Aguilar on his use of a positive message to start out his television campaign advertising, and note that the Democratic National Committee chose to attack and disparage Paul Chabot, a local businessman and veteran with baseless half-truths and out-and-out lies in their sponsored television advertising.

We know the DNC is desperate and willing to victimize and pillage anyone who stands in the way of their political aspirations.

Like many of my fellow citizens in the Inland Empire, I have grown tired of relentless attack ads and baseless lies. One can hope that Pete Aguilar does the right thing and speaks out against this kind of negative campaigning, as it does not represent what the majority of the citizens here want to see in their representatives.
